Khmer Village Homestay is located in the heartland of Cambodia in Baray, Kompong Thom Province.

This location provides the ideal mix of natural beauty and accessibility, with Baray situated just off of the National Road #6, about 120km north of Phnom Penh and 194km south of Siem Reap. It is a perfect mid-way stop on your travels between the nation’s capital and the home of the world-famous Angkor Temples.

Baray is a pristine 10-km square area of captivating scenery that includes both vast stretches of green rice fields and a multitude of traditional village houses, all surrounded by the ever-present Palm Trees that dot the landscape of Cambodia. The fields of Baray are fed by the vast Tonle Sap Lake which dominates the landscape to the west of the district and, through its vast array of intriguing estuaries, ensures a constant supply of water for the local environment and its inhabitants.

As well as being an area of great beauty and rich heritage, Baray has also had its fair share of troubles in recent years. Many people recall the firm grip which the Khmer Rouge had on this part of Kompong Thom Province during the late 1970s and early 1980s, a period in which the rice fields became the killing fields, home to some of the worst atrocities of the Khmer Rouge era.

Since the early 1990s, the people of Baray have had to work hard to rebuild their lives and restore the image of their local area in the eyes of Cambodia. The lasting memory of those who now visit Baray is of a friendly and welcoming people who are also proud of their community and determined to give it a brighter future.
